On 31 January 2025, a delegation of the Executive Board of the ENCJ visited Hungary.
On the occasion of this visit, they had, inter alia, discussions with representatives of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
The consultations with the National Judicial Council provided an opportunity to jointly review the situation of judicial independence in Hungary, and the NJC informed the representatives of the ENCJ about the circumstances and reasons for the conclusion of the so-called ’quadripartite agreement’ and its annulment by the NJC.
The NJC provided information on the current state of the legislative process concerning the organisation of the judiciary, its anomalies and the resulting tensions in the organisation of the judiciary.
The consultation will continue in February 2025.
